Noninvasive | 24 Hour ECG

This is a simple and quite painless test to monitor your heart rhythm over the whole of 24 hours. The test is an important investigation for the diagnosis of palpitations, dizzy attacks and faints. The ECG monitor is a small box about the size of a Walkman. This is worn at the waist for 24-hours and it is attached via leads to 3 or 4 recording stickers (ECG electrodes) on the chest. The recorder is put on in hospital by technicians and there is no need for you to stay in hospital following this. The recording equipment can be worn throughout the day and night and is hardly noticeable under the clothes. The only limitations is that you will not be able to bath or shower while the recorder is on.

You will need to return the monitor to the Cardiology department at the same time on the following day (unless you are having the test on a Friday, when we will ask you to remove it yourself on the Saturday and return it on the following Monday before 12.OO noon. The monitor can be sometimes be posted back to the hospital.

The recording is analyzed on the same day as it is returned and the result is available within 24 hours.
